Doss USA manufactures world-class visual inspection machines that help a wide range of industries, including pharmaceutical, healthcare, fashion, and automotive. Our machines utilize machine learning and AI to improve their results with every production run. The more you use our visual inspection machines, the better your QA process becomes.

Discover five small parts our visual inspection machines help manufacturers in the automotive industry.

1. Lug Nuts

Lug nuts need to work with precision while withstanding the torque needed to remove each nut from the wheel. Then they have to deal with the torque of putting the lug nuts back on the wheel.

Visual inspection machines can view lug nuts from above and below with precise digital photography thanks to sturdy glass plates, bright lighting, and a processor that approves or rejects parts based on your specifications.

2. Washers

Washers can’t have any bends in them, or they could break when nuts tighten against them. Flat washers must be able to stay structurally stable while having the right dimensions for bolts so they don’t interfere with the turning motion and threads.

Doss USA’s visual inspection machines measure the inside diameter, outside diameter, bends in the metal, thickness, and the cross-sectional diameter of individual washers as they pass through the cameras. Digital images and lightning-fast decision-making will help your team measure the effectiveness of your production runs.

3. O-Rings

O-rings help maintain fluids flowing in a car. While they have some tolerances, O-rings need to fit in their seals properly to prevent leaks. Some seals are static without any movements. Other O-ring seals are dynamic when parts are moving, like the O-rings in pistons.

Doss USA’s visual inspection machines measure and inspect all dimensions of an O-ring to meet your tolerance requirements. As your system gets better at making measurements and observations, your QA will get more efficient.

4. Nuts & Bolts

Nuts and bolts are everywhere on a vehicle. They keep the car together, from the frame and gas tank to brakes and shocks. The average car has 3,500 fasteners! If any one of them fails, it can lead to mechanical failure.

Doss USA has visual inspection systems that will measure all dimensions of your nuts and bolts, including the tolerances of the threads, to make sure your defects are pushed aside.

5. Springs

Your car has four big springs, one at each corner. But it also has smaller springs that adjust the tension of various cables depending on whether the car is idle or moving. Tension springs need to have the right coil count so they can have the correct tension.

Visual inspection machines for the automotive industry use high-definition digital imagery to count the coils and reject any with too few or too many coils, or any coils that aren’t aligned correctly. The data collected will help you make your production line more successful.
